What a Full Bathroom Remodel Involves
Most people picture the finished room. The work that decides whether you still like it in ten years happens well before that.
Demolition, down to the studs. On a full remodel we take the room back to framing and subfloor. It is the only way to see what you actually have, and in older Flathead homes and cabins what you have is often not what the last owner thought.
Framing changes. Moving a wall is what turns a cramped bathroom into one that works. If the layout you want needs a wall moved or a doorway shifted, we frame it.
Plumbing and electrical rough-in. New supply lines, drains and venting, and new circuits for lighting, fans and heated floors. This is the stage nobody photographs and everybody should.
Waterproofing and the shower pan. The most important part of a bathroom and the part most often rushed. A shower that leaks does not announce itself. It rots framing quietly for years.
Tile, fixtures, cabinets and trim. Then the part you can see.
The Bathrooms We Get Asked For Most
Every bathroom is different, but the same five jobs come up again and again in the Flathead Valley.
- Master bath rebuilds. Usually a freestanding tub, a larger walk-in shower and a double vanity, which almost always means moving at least one wall.
- Tub-to-shower conversions. The most common remodel we do, and the one that changes daily life the most for people planning to stay in the house.
- Walk-in tile showers with a bench. Built on site rather than dropped in as an insert. Custom pan, full tile, niche where you want it.
- New vanities and cabinetry. We set them ourselves. See cabinet installation.
- Cabin and older-home bathrooms. Where the surprises live. See our cabin remodel gallery.
We frame, we do the finish carpentry and we set cabinets ourselves. You are not getting a project manager who subs out every stage to whoever was free that week. In a bathroom the trades stack tightly, and a missed handoff costs you a week each time.
What a Bathroom Remodel Costs
We publish our price per square foot for new construction because a new build is a known quantity. Bathrooms are not. They vary more than any other room in the house, and anyone who quotes you a bathroom over the phone is guessing.
Here is what actually moves the number:
- Whether the layout changes. Leaving every fixture where it sits costs a fraction of moving them. The moment a toilet or a shower drain moves, you are into the floor.
- What is behind the walls. Rot around an old shower pan, plumbing that was never right, wiring that will not carry a heated floor. In older Flathead homes and cabins this is common, and it is found at demo, not predicted beforehand.
- Tile and fixture selection. The widest variable of all, and the one you control. The same bathroom finishes at very different numbers depending on what you pick.
- Full gut or a refresh. Back to studs is a different project than a new vanity, new fixtures and paint.
- Whether it is your only bathroom. That drives the schedule, and schedule is cost.
So we look first. We will come out, walk the bathroom with you and give you a real number based on what is actually there. The visit is free and nothing is attached to it.
