Most of the garage and shop companies that show up when you search around here aren't from around here. They sell you a kit, drop it at your property, and leave you to find a crew who'll put it up and a concrete outfit who'll pour under it.

We build the whole thing. Site prep, footings, slab, framing, roof, doors and electrical rough-in, handled by one licensed crew that lives in the valley and answers the phone in February. Detached garages, work shops, RV bays, pole barns and post-frame buildings, in Kalispell and Creston.

What we build

Detached garages

Two-car, three-car, or a single bay with real storage behind it. Built to match the house rather than look like something that landed next to it — same roof pitch, same siding, same trim details. Overhead door sizing and placement worked out around how you actually pull in.

Work shops

Open span, high ceilings, a slab that can take a lift or a press, and enough power to run more than a shop vac. If you've been working out of a single bay with the truck parked outside all winter, this is the fix.

RV and boat bays

Tall doors and deep bays so the fifth-wheel or the boat comes inside before the snow does. We size the door height around the actual rig — bring us the measurements, or we'll come measure it.

Pole barns and post-frame buildings

Post-frame gets you more covered square footage per dollar than stick framing, which is why it's the right answer for a lot of shop and equipment storage jobs. We build them, and we build conventional framing, and we'll tell you honestly which one your project wants.

Garages with living space

A shop with an apartment over it, or a garage with a finished bonus room. Two different price points in one building — garage space and finished living space cost very different money, and we'll break out both so you can see the tradeoff before you commit.

Barndominiums

The shop-and-home-in-one-building approach. Big open span on one end, finished living on the other.

What it costs

We publish our numbers, which not everyone does.

Garage and shop space: $75 per square foot.
Finished living space: $225 per square foot.

Those are 2026 Flathead Valley numbers. Some common sizes, run out:

Size Square feet Approximate
24 × 24 two-car 576 $43,200
24 × 30 two-car with work space 720 $54,000
30 × 40 shop 1,200 $90,000
40 × 60 large shop 2,400 $180,000

A 30 × 40 shop with a 600 square foot finished apartment above it, for example, runs the 1,200 square feet of shop at $75 and the 600 square feet of living space at $225.

What those figures don't include: land, well, septic, permit costs, engineering, plans or landscaping. We'd rather show you a real number with the exclusions spelled out than a low one you find out about later.

How we build them

Site prep and grading. We own our machine, so excavation and site work happen on our schedule instead of waiting on a sub. Drainage gets sorted before anything gets poured — a shop that sheds water away from the slab stays a shop.

Footings and slab. Footings go below frost depth, on compacted base, with rebar. A garage slab and a shop slab aren't the same pour: if you're putting a lift or heavy equipment on it, tell us up front and we'll thicken and reinforce where the loads land.

Framing and roof. Conventional stick framing or post-frame, roof pitch matched to the house, snow loads accounted for — we build for upper-valley elevations, not for somewhere flat and warm.

Doors, power and finish. Overhead doors sized to what's going through them, service and circuits roughed in for the tools you actually run, and siding and trim that ties the building to the house.

Why a local builder instead of a kit

There's nothing wrong with a metal building package. The problem is what the package doesn't cover.

A kit company sells you steel or a post-frame shell out of Oregon, Washington or the other end of Montana. The foundation is yours to arrange. The crew is yours to find. And when a panel shows up bent or a detail doesn't match the slab someone else poured, you're the one in the middle making phone calls.

We quote one number for a finished building and carry the whole thing. If something's wrong, it's ours to fix, and we're twenty minutes away rather than six hundred miles.

How it goes

  1. You call or send the form. Tell us roughly what you want and where it's going.
  2. We come look at the site. No charge. Ground conditions, access, drainage and where the building actually wants to sit — that visit changes the number more than anything you can tell us over the phone.
  3. You get a written quote. Itemized, with the exclusions listed.
  4. We build it. One crew, one point of contact, and you'll know who's showing up.

Common questions

How much does a garage cost to build in Kalispell?

Garage and shop space runs $75 per square foot, so a 24 × 30 two-car comes in around $54,000 and a 30 × 40 shop around $90,000. That excludes land, well, septic, permits, engineering, plans and landscaping. Finished living space is $225 per square foot.

How long does a garage or shop take?

It depends on size and where you are in the season. Our build window here is roughly April through October, so the practical answer is that projects getting quoted in winter are the ones that get good spring slots. If you're thinking about next summer, talk to us in January or February rather than May.

Can you build a shop with an apartment or living space above it?

Yes. We quote the shop portion and the finished portion separately so you can see exactly what the living space is adding and adjust the size before you commit.

Do you build pole barns and post-frame buildings?

Yes, along with conventional framing. Post-frame usually gets you more covered square footage per dollar, which makes it a good fit for shops and equipment storage. We'll tell you which method suits your project instead of only selling the one we'd rather build.

I already bought a building kit. Will you put it up?

Often, yes. Call us with what you bought and we'll tell you straight whether we can work with that package, what the foundation under it needs to be, and what it would cost to erect. If the kit is a problem we'll say so before you're any further in.

Can you just pour the slab?

Yes. We do site prep, footings and flatwork as standalone work.

Will the garage match my house?

That's the point. Roof pitch, siding, trim and color all get matched — a detached garage should read as part of the property.

Do you help with plans?

Yes, and we don't charge for it. If you've bought a stock plan online, we'll help you alter it to work for your site and what you actually want.
