Home Additions in Kalispell & Flathead County
Most home additions in the Flathead Valley start the same way: the house worked fine when you bought it, and now it does not. A second child, a parent moving in, a job that turned into a permanent work-from-home arrangement. An addition is usually the cheaper answer than moving. You keep the lot, the trees, the view and the neighborhood, and you put the money into square footage instead of a realtor commission.
We handle additions from the first sketch through the final walkthrough. That means we design the addition to match the house you already have, pull the permits, coordinate the excavation, framing, mechanical, electrical and plumbing trades, and finish the interior so the seam between old and new is not something you notice every day.
What we build
Master suite additions, second-story additions, bump-outs that widen a cramped kitchen or dining room, in-law and multigenerational suites, sunrooms and three-season rooms, garage conversions, and attached garage additions. We also take on projects that live in the same category: enclosing a covered porch, dormering an attic into usable bedroom space, or opening up a load-bearing wall between the addition and the original house.
Matching the existing house
The difference between an addition that looks intentional and one that looks bolted on comes down to details decided early: roof pitch, fascia and soffit profile, window proportion and grille pattern, siding reveal, and trim width. We measure what is on your house before ordering anything. Where a product has been discontinued, which happens constantly with siding and window lines, we find the closest current match and plan the transition so it falls on a natural break in the wall rather than mid-run.
Foundations, frost and snow load in Flathead County
An addition in Kalispell is not the same build as an addition in a mild climate. Footings have to bear below the 42-inch frost depth, and the roof structure has to carry a 50 psf ground snow load. We also plan where snow will shed once the new roof is on. A valley created by an addition can dump a season of snow onto a walkway, a gas meter, or the very door you added the space to reach. That gets designed around, not discovered in February.
Where the addition ties into the existing foundation, we look at what is actually there before committing to an approach. Older Flathead homes turn up everything from full basements to shallow crawlspaces on undersized footings, and the connection detail changes accordingly.
Permits and approvals
Whatever your addition needs in the way of permits and inspections, sorting it out is our job, not yours. We handle that paperwork and the inspection scheduling as part of the job. You should not have to learn which agency owns which piece.

Most additions include at least one new bathroom, and many are built to take pressure off the ones you already have. We handle that work too, from rough-in through tile and cabinets. See bathroom remodeling.
